    Flippin’ Burgers Visit

Saw the sign for this place a few weeks ago, and found out it was open from some positive reviews on Urbanspoon.  The phrase “tater tots are made from scratch” had my interest piqued, not to mention in-house ground beef.

The place is way up north at 183 and 1431 in Cedar Park.

Got the combo meal.  The menu lists fresh made-in-house everything pretty much.  Burger was thin patty, griddled; cheddar available and procured.

The purported Tater Tots® (registered trademark of Ore-Ida, inventors of the Tater Tot®) are tots in name only. They were more like “battered home fries” to me–small chunks of potato with some breading/crust.  So not even close to what I know as the Tater Tot®–cylindrical potato composites, à la Sonic.  So tot-lovers don’t be fooled, I wouldn’t call these tater tots.  They were tasty nonetheless, however I would definitely try the fries next time.

Dublin Dr. Pepper on tap, as well as Maine Root Cola.

All in all, a good burger with quality accessories.  It’s a bit far afield for me, so unlikely to visit again soon.  But if it were more convenient, I could see making it a regular stop.  Definitely need to get back and try the fries and onion rings.

    In The Buns Sold

In The Buns posted this on their Facebook page today (copied here since the fb page will disappear soon):

My name is David Sahagun and am the proud founder of In The Buns!! I started In The Buns with big hopes and dreams. As of September 1st I started the process of selling my wonderful concept. Why you ask? Well I just started a family and needed to spend more time with them. We did close the doors here and there do to the process of transfer. We do apologize for that. Jake and his wife are the new owners and kept the whole original staff. I am proud to hand over the reins to them and know they will do a wonderful job. I would like to thank Rick, Ralfa, Rylan, Joan, Alma, Bobby and former employees that made this a great experience. I would also like to thank all of our wonderful customers for loyalty and helping us promote. I will miss you all and if you all want to find me I am managing at Qdoba on Great hills ;-) I will be shutting down this page soon so if you have any questions please email me or contact the store. Thanks again!!!

    David Sahagun

So the good news is that it will stay open.  Hopefully the burgers will remain as good.  Perhaps they will work on making the interior a bit more appealing.  And they need more signage.

Your Mom’s Burger Bar Coming to Burnet?

Sources indicate that Your Mom’s Burger Bar, currently with only one location on Cesar Chavez, is eyeing a spot on Burnet, next to the Omelettry.  Never been there but they get good reviews all around.  Specialize in “stuffed burgers”.  One more quality burger joint on the Burnet Road Burger Mile is a good thing.  Looking forward to it.

In the Buns Fresh Cut Fries

Returned to In the Buns to check out the fresh cut fries.  Burger still delicious (had the cheddar burger again).  Fries much better than the generic frozen curlies I experienced on my first visit (more pix in that post).  They also upgraded the tables–replaced most of the too-small tables that featured the odd fork sculptures with roomier tables sans art.

    The New Fries

So the upshot: french fry upgrade and table upgrade = good experience.  Only cons: somewhat grating music, and I wish the combo price were a dollar or two cheaper (comes to $9 and change as is).  This is by far the best burger I’ve found in the area.

    Hat Creek Deal

This one is priced right–pay $3 for $6 of grub.  Good through 11/23/11.  And as always, the Fb terms indicate that even if you don’t use it before expiration, the face value of the voucher ($3) is still redeemable after that date: “After the end of the promotional period, the Voucher may be redeemed for goods or services in the amount originally paid.”

    Moonie’s Opening Third Location

Cedar Park’s Moonie’s Burger House is opening a third location at MoPac and Burnet, in the same shopping center as TacoDeli, at 12001 Burnet Road.  Looks like the same spot as the failed Gabbi’s Burgers and Dogs occupied.

hey chris…we are now open in that location. Its a smaller but “cozier” place than our other locations. We are testing a few different things over there. We have a family meal deal for $21.99 that feeds two adults and two kids…we have a happy hour from 4-7pm everyday. ALL bottled beer is $2. One of the best deals in town! And for you we offer either sliced or shredded cheddar (asked for shredded) to top off your burger. Thanks for letting people know we are open…. brian (owner)

Thanks for the info Brian, and thanks for the Cheddar update! Two varieties of cheddar–that’s even better. Will have to get by and give this location a try.

I am at that location quite a bit so let me know when you are there..would like to meet you. remember you can get extra mayo etc. if you want it on your burger. Your one of the few that has said we had “dry bun” syndrome :) Nothing worse than dry buns. The bun is usually one of the things we receive great reviews on. Look forward to seeing you and thanks for letting people know we are open. It really helps us smaller guys. brian
